Smoken Up has given his trainer driver Lance Justice his fourth Miracle Mile title by winning the race at Menangle last Saturday November 26, 2011.
The nine-year-old won the 2011 Miracle Mile ahead of Karloo Mick, who finished second, and Im Themightyquinn, who finished in third.
Justice said he would bring Smoken Up back for next year’s Miracle Mile to defend his title.
“The wide open circuit at Menangle suits Smoken Up,” Justice said.
“I’m sure I will bring him back and break 1:48.5.”
The trainer now plans to win the entire Grand Circuit after accumulating 14 points over the first four legs of the 15-race series.
“It is something he has not done, winning the Grand Circuit,” Justice said.
“He is such a great horse, I would like to see him join the list of winners of it.
“It is about being consistent for the whole season, so we plan to take him to as many legs as possible, while keeping him fresh.
“I won’t take him to Bankstown because I don’t think the small track will suit him and I have found in the past that the Miracle Mile does take a lot out of them.
“His next start will probably be in the Victoria Cup (a Grand Circuit race at Melton on December 17) then we go back to the South Australia Cup because they love him over there.
“It was home for a long time and I would love to win it, and then we can head towards the Interdominion (in Perth in March).”
